Scawsby Women Donate £250 to St John’s Hospice

A group of kind-hearted women from Scawsby have donated £250 to St John’s Hospice in recognition of the care and support staff have given to their family members and friends.

The Independent Women Group, which has more than 50 members, meets once a month on a Thursday at Scawsby Community Centre. Members enjoy a range of activities, social events and outings, and for more than eight years, the group has made it a tradition to support a different charity each year.

This year, members chose to support St John’s Hospice after seeing first-hand the difference its care makes to patients and families.

Pat Cowlishaw, who helps run the group, said:

“We know how wonderful the care provided by the hospice is, as it has supported some of our loved ones.

“We wanted to make this donation as a small way of saying thank you for everything the team does.”

Hospice Fundraising Manager Jenny Baynham said:

“We’re very grateful to the Independent Women Group for their donation, and thank everyone involved for their kindness and support.”

St John’s Hospice relies on charitable donations to fund around 20% of its running costs and must raise more than £680,000 each year to continue delivering specialist palliative and end-of-life care.

St John’s Hospice is run by Rotherham Doncaster & South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) and is part of its Your Hearts and Minds charity.
