The fundraising event formed part of the Helpful Badger programme, which encourages Badgers to support charities and make a positive difference in their local community.
As part of the challenge, older Badgers Poppy W, Poppy S, Efie, Erin and Pria, supported by Cadet Sofie, took responsibility for every aspect of the event. They selected Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice as their chosen charity, invited representatives from the hospice to give a talk, wrote the quiz questions, and planned and ran the entire evening.
In addition to the quiz, the event featured a cake stall, a "Name the Teddy Bear" competition, and individual coin boxes, with every Badger collecting spare change in the lead-up to the event.
Julie Slyde, Cadet Group Lead for the Doncaster and Barnsley Network, said:
"We are all incredibly proud of the Badgers and what they have achieved in raising money for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. They had never organised anything like this before, and it was wonderful to watch them grow in confidence over the weeksβfrom writing letters and inviting the charity to speak, to standing up in front of a packed room to read out the quiz questions they had written. With the support of Sofie, one of our Cadets, they not only delivered a fantastic event but also exceeded their original fundraising target."
Badgers are the youngest members of St John Ambulance, welcoming children aged 5 to 11. The programme provides a fun, friendly and safe environment where young people can learn important life skills, including first aid, while building confidence and gaining a sense of achievement through a structured educational programme.
The Helpful Badger programme helps children understand that helping others is part of everyday life, encouraging them to discover how they can support people and causes within their local community.
